Arlene Anne Soderberg

Arlene passed away peacefully at Calumet Hospice Center, Tuesday, July 4, 2023. She was the daughter of Henry and Marie A’Hearn Martin. She was born on August 27, 1931 on a farm south of Waukon, Iowa and baptized and confirmed at St Patrick’s Church in Waukon. She attended grade school at Jefferson #8 and from 7th grade on attended St Patrick’s grade school and high school. Arlene married John Verthein at St Patrick’s Church and they divorced in 1965. They had seven children, John, James (Nancy), Michael, Joseph, Dawn (Allen) Kierzek, Gregory and Laura. In 1984 Arlene married Roy Soderberg at St Agnes Church in Chicago Heights, IL. Arlene worked as Head of Communications at Allis Chalmers Manufacturing and later as a sales manager for a nationwide furniture company. Arlene leaves four children and sisters Mary (Dale) Mohwinkle, Shirley Murphy, and brothers, Jerry (Louise) Martin, John (Katy) Martin; and many grandchildren. Preceding her in death was a precious son, Joseph Neil Verthein who passed in 2016; son, Gregory who lived only 12 hours and daughter, Laura who was stillborn; husband, Roy passed in 1997; her parents, Henry and Marie Martin; siblings, Francis (Janet) Martin, Helen (Falby) Stillwell, Clair (Rosie) Martin; stillborn brothers, Joseph and Thomas.
