Dolores L. Giovingo
With deep sadness we announce that our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Dolores Louise Giovingo, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the age of 94 years.
Dolores was born September 17,1929. She married Joseph on July 2, 1949, and they raised their children together in Calumet City. She worked in the women’s retail clothing industry for over 25 years. They moved to Lowell, Indiana to enjoy retirement.
Her wonderful smile brought joy to all those around her. She loved spending time with her family, especially at their summer cottage on Lake Shafer, where she loved to sit at the end of the day and count the boats as they passed by. She found joy and peace in her artistic endeavors, with many of her paintings treasured in the homes of family members.
Dolores was most proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, always cherishing the moments they shared and celebrating their achievements. A hard-working, selfless woman, she was always putting family first. Dolores was a longtime member of St. Edward Catholic Church and The Daughters of Isabella. Her passionate Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life and provided her strength and comfort during challenging times.
Dolores will be deeply missed by her children, Joe (Sharon) Giovingo, Darcy (Victor) Tario and Lisa Giovingo; grandchildren, Brian Giovingo and Nancy (Justin) Evans; great grandchildren, Allen, Ashlee and Alexis Evans; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Joseph; her parents; and her sister Evelyn Ornelas.
Visitation will be Monday, September 16, from 4-8 PM at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Lowell, IN. Funeral Mass is on Tuesday, September 17 at 11 AM at St. Edward Church, Lowell, IN. Burial will follow at 1 PM in Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.
