Dorothy Jean Gunning

96, of Lowell Indiana, was peacefully called home to heaven early in the morning on 5 December 2024.  A native of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, she has been a resident of Lowell since 1968.  She was a proud and devout Catholic and a member of St. Edward parish in Lowell, where she served as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society for many years. She was the last surviving member of her 1946 high school graduating class at Holy Rosary High School in Pittsburgh. 

She is survived by her brother, Michael (Judy) Doyle and his wife, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, her cousin, Thomas Haller of Pittsburgh, Pa.; her 7 Children, Linda, of Lowell, In., Bob (Susie (Echterling)), of Charlotte, N.C., Jeffrey, of Munster, In., Patty, of Munster, In., Mary Sue (Tom) Kotula, of Schnecksville, Pa., Thomas, (Teresa (Wallace)) of Bridgewater, N.J., and Madonna (Tom) Streeter of Locust Grove, Georgia;  she was the proud Grandmother of nine grandchildren, Tiffany (Eric) Hookstadt, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, R. Thomas (Annie) Gunning III  of Charlotte, N.C.,  Kelly (Brynn) Saunders, of Charlotte, N.C., Joseph (Olivia) Kotula, of Annandale, Va., Laura Kotula of Atlanta, Ga., Spencer Gunning, of Champaign, IL, Preston Gunning, of Bridgewater, N.J., Erin Streeter of Macon, Ga.,  Courtney Streeter, of Memphis, TN; and six Great-Grandchildren,  Zackary and Ally Gunning (children of Tiffany and Eric), both of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Ella and Patrick Gunning, (children of Tom and Annie), both of Charlotte, N.C., Grace and Sam Saunders, (children of Kelly and Brynn), both of Charlotte, N.C. 

Dorothy was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Robert Gunning Sr., her parents, James Francis and Elizabeth (Haller) Doyle, her brother, Jimmy, her sister, Pat Weisser, all of Pittsburgh, Pa., and her daughter-in-law, Melody Gunning (wife of Jeffrey).  Dorothy represented all the best in family values, and was incredibly strong in her faith.  She remains a huge influence on her family.  She loved a good time and will be missed by all who knew her.               

Visitation, Monday December 9 from 2-5 at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell.  Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, 11 AM at St. Edward Catholic Church with Burial following in Orchard Grove Cemetery.
