Edgar Corns
89, of Lowell, IN passed away Friday, January 03, 2025. He was born September 20, 1935 in Lowell, IN to Hazel and Robert Corns. As early as 6 years old he was farming his miniature fields in the back yard. Beginning in the 6th grade Edgar set pins at the Lowell Bowling Alley. He was awarded the Indiana State Farmer FFA Award in high school. He graduated from High School in 1954. Signing up for the draft was required and Ed joined the Army in 1957-58 and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado and Fort Lewis, Washington.
Upon returning from the service Ed joined Bill Poer working on the Poer Farm. In 1960 they became partners in the operation and in 1977 bought the Poer Farm, formed a corporation and added many acres, owning and renting land. Ed was dedicated to farming for 38 years.
Edgar met his wife, Darlene from Wisconsin through friends and relatives and they were married for 55 years. Edgar and Darlene helped 2 teenage children, Marylyn and Mitchell Pattee, who lost their parents During the years they went on trips to all parts of the United States including 2 trips to Hawaii and 1 to Alaska. Edgar was an avid collector of photography and they enjoyed searching for antiques over the years.
For many years while farming Ed was an active member of Soil and Water Conservation at the Local, State and Federal levels. He also was a volunteer for the Grange at the Fair, Gleaners (Hawthorne Arbor) for the community and the Halsted House. Edgar was a member of the Lowell Police Commissioner and the Lowell Town Council for a number of years.
Ed and Darlene attended and were active at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Merrillville for 42 years and now are members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowell.
Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Robert Corns; brothers, Frank, Marshall and Orville; sister, Alma, Dele, Lorene, Mildred; nephew, Bobby; nieces, Becky, Joye, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; nephews, Leon Corns, Billy and Bryan Corns, Norman Lee Cloninger; nieces, Virginia Made, Sue Burge and Bonnie Symons; great nephew, Tim Henke; great niece, Tammy Outler and many more. His close friends include William and Sharon Poer.
Visitation, Tuesday, January 7th from 11AM-2PM with Funeral Service following at 2PM, all at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 604 E. Commercial Ave, Lowell, IN 46356.
