Edmund "Ed" Kormendy

Edmund Kormendy

89, of Crown Point, IN, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026.  He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Karen; daughter, Lisa (Mark) Oller of GA; grandchildren, Samantha and Branden, of GA; siblings, Joe (Bobby) and Carolyn Williams; step sisters, Dorothy Gerner, Mary Runfeldt, Norma (Mel) Minion; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son Jeff; parents, Joe Kormendy, Sr., and Mary (Ray) Forburger; and grandparents, Emory and Mary Kish.

In 1955 Ed was a cable splicer for IL Bell.  He was then called to serve his Country in the US Army, where he served as a Medic with the 57th field Hospital in France.  Once completed, Ed returned to working for IL Bell and attended night school for Cosmetology Education.  The Kormendy’s purchased Merrillville Beauty College, in 1975 and semi-retired in 1987.  They moved to GA where he enjoyed watching and participating in his grandchildren’s lives and activities and continued working for West Lumber Co.  Fully retired in 2005, Ed and Karen moved back to Lowell, where Ed spent his time, talents and passion as a Craftsmen and Artist, sharing those talents with his many friends and family as the recipients of his labor. 

Ed will always affectionately be known as “Grampy”.     

The family would like to thank Traditions Hospice and the VA for their kindness, comfort and care given to Ed and their family. 

Per Ed’s wishes, Private Cremation will be held through Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell. 

Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Jude Chidren’s Research Hospital.
