Elizabeth Hulsey

65, of Merrillville, IN passed away October 3, 2024. She is survived by her son, Benjamin Hulsey. Elizabeth was also close with her extended family of James (Coleen) Hulsey, Robert (Marque Ann) Hulsey, Susan (Douglas) Sullivan, Donald (Monique) Hulsey and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, William, and her parents, Dennis L. And Sandra Jo Randall.

Elizabeth began her professional career in banking administration at Chase Bank.  After years at Chase Bank, Elizabeth attended Purdue University where she earned a bachelors and two masters degrees in Special Education. She then helped to establish an innovative elementary class for students with autism for School City of Hammond. Elizabeth’s motivation and dedication to students with special needs led her to teach at Pierce Middle School and Merrillville High School through Northwest Indiana Special Education Cooperative. She also assisted at the Wabash Center’s Summer program and helped students pursue their GED’s at Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.

Elizabeth was a joyous person who was kind and generous to everyone she encountered, especially the families of her students. Her home and yard were known for elaborate decorations during holidays, a hobby she shared with her son. She was also a supporter of local animal shelters. Elizabeth’s life was one of generosity, kindness, and service.  

Visitation will be Thursday, October 10 from 2-6 at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell.
