Geraldine Burke
89, of Crown Point, IN, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; children, Debbie (Fred) Hamilton, Lori Hall, Linda Devine, Kerry (Sue), Jeff, Joe, Russell (Christine); 27 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren; sisters, Joanne Wells and Phyllis Boyda. Preceded in death by sons, Dan and Mark.
Whether you called her Gerry, Mom, Grandma, or Great Grandma, Geraldine was beloved by her family and friends. Raising nine children, all born before her 30th birthday, Geraldine was a dynamic and resourceful woman in all parts of her life whose penchant for neatness and order never faded as the years passed. With a dry sense of humor and a quick wit, she never let her sons or daughters get the last word on any topic she cared about, especially religion, politics, and Chicago Cubs baseball. Perhaps the detail that most defines her, however, was the grit and determination that carried her through 73 years of her marriage to her beloved Joe. When things were hard she rose to the challenge, and when things were smooth she could smile and laugh while staying ready for whatever hardship might come next. When the work was done, she relaxed by tending her gardens and even taking up video games to play with her grandchildren. A lifelong Roman Catholic, she goes to rest secure in the knowledge of what waits for her ahead, and we who are left can only presume that she is once again having the last word with the two sons who preceded her.
