Herbert L. Williams
94, of Bloomington, IN, and formerly of Lowell, IN, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
Born on March 11, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, Herb moved to Lake County as a teenager and graduated from Lowell High School in 1947.
He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the destroyer escort J. Douglas Blackwood (DE-219) in the Pacific fleet. He was a lifetime charter member of the VFW Lowell Post No. 6841 and a member of the American Legion Post in Bloomington, Indiana.
Herb worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company, advancing over his 40-year career from service repairman in Lowell, Indiana, to a member of the Vice President’s staff for the Midwest territory, and then to National Parts & Service Supervisor working in the Sears Tower.
Prior to moving to Bloomington, Herb and Carolyn retired to Raccoon Lake in Parke County, where he enjoyed many years with family and friends and also served as a trustee of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Rockville.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Carolyn M. (Kormendy) Williams, of Bloomington; his son Randall Williams, of Bloomington; three grandchildren – Dustin (Jody) Williams of Lowell; Jennifer (Michael) Reynolds of Omaha, Nebraska; and Rachel (Jon) Nix of Russellville, Arkansas; and eight great-grandchildren – Emma and Isabella Williams; Arya, Zoe, and Kai Reynolds; and Bronson, Brynlee, and Maddyx Nix. Also surviving are his brothers-in law Joseph (Roberta) Kormendy and Edmond (Karen) Kormendy; sister-in-laws, Dorothy (Forburger) Gerner, Mary (Forburger) Runfeldt, Norma (Mel) (Forburger) Minion and many nephews, nieces, and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert L. and Bertie Marie Williams, his brother-in-law and sister Donald and Mary Lou Ruley and his brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Ruthann Williams; brother-in-laws Jack Gerner and Allan Runfeldt.
Visitation, March 11, from 11-12, Concluding with Funeral Services at 12 PM, all at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell. Burial will follow in West Creek Cemetery.
