Jess Funston

76, of Lowell, IN passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda; children, Shelli (Ron) Hurlocker, Dan (Heidi) Funston, Jeff Funston, Dustin (Amanda) Ewing; grandchildren, Morgan Funston, Charlie (Lydia) Hurlocker, Joey Hurlocker, Joel, Dane and Sarah Funston, Brady and Mason Ewing, Toby and Tinley Funston; great grandchild, Madison Short, Archive and Ambrose Hurlocker.

Jess was very passionate about coaching youth sports, especially basketball.  He coached both boys and girls high school and middle school basketball in NWI for four decades and was a highly respected and greatly loved coach, who left a legacy.  He and his 1988 basketball team were recently inducted into the Lowell High School Hall of Fame.  Many of his players still kept in touch with him and leaned on him as a role model.

When Jess wasn’t coaching on the weekends, you could find him in his bass boat on a lake.  For several years he fished competitively and still enjoyed fishing regularly as of this past fall.   He loved to talk about fishing with anyone who would listen!

Jess loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always extremely proud of their accomplishments!

Cremation will precede a Celebration of Life, Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Lake Township Community Center (Old Firehouse), 9728 N 300 W, Lake Village, IN 46349. Arrangements entrusted to Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Lowell, IN.
