John R. Westerfield
74, of Lowell, IN, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, after an extended illness. He was born on March 3, 1949, in Chicago, IL, to Alvin G. and Marie H. (nee Knitter) Westerfield.
John lived in Hammond, IN, for most of his life and retired from The Med Inn Nursing Home in 2003 after 30 years of service. He subsequently moved to the state of Tennessee and worked various jobs there until returning to Northwest Indiana in 2010.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James Westerfield and Richard Westerfield. He is survived by his wife, Kim E. Westerfield of the home; his daughter, Jessica (nee Westerfield) Merced, of Hammond; his sister, Judy Brassea of Monee, Illinois, a grand-daughter, Haley Mans of Crawfordsville; his step-children, Justin B. Razavi, Joshua J. Razavi and Dane A. Rounsaville, all of Chicago, Illinois, and Leah Seefeldt, of Portage; many nieces and nephews, dear friends, and his loyal lab beagle, Katie.
John was a member of the Lowell First United Methodist Church, a longtime member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He served in various official positions with The Moose organization. He was proud of his affiliation with The Moose and never failed to give of his time or resources when possible.
John had a particular fondness for Elvis Presley and could frequently be seen sporting his signature Elvis sunglasses. He had an infectious smile.
Friends are invited to visit at Lowell First United Methodist Church, 502 E. Commercial Ave. Lowell, between the hours of 10:00 am and Noon on December 18, 2023; Funeral Service following at Noon.
