Joseph Dewes, Sr.
92, of Lowell, IN, passed away Sunday January 5th, 2025. He is survived by his sons, Joe Jr. (Cindy) of Crown Point, Jason (Dolly) of Chicago, and Jeffrey (Patti) of Cheboygan MI; 8 grandchildren, Brandon, Benjamin, Brigitte, Allie, Paige, Kenny, Ryan and Nora. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Juanita.
Joseph was a member of St Edward and St August Catholic Churches and was a lifetime member of the Amateur Trapshooting Assoc. Following service to his country in the Army during the Korean War, Joe returned to NW IN and began a lifelong career in construction and development. Joe’s business ventures included Building and Salvage IN, Kentland Lumber, Blue Ribbon Homes, The Cook Lounge, and he was a board member of the Lowell National Bank. Growing up on a farm in Lowell Joe developed a passion for animals, agriculture and the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, Joe spent much of his free time with his family and friends at trapshooting competitions, fishing and hunting. Waterfowl conservation became his passion, following retirement, Joe devoted his life to wildlife habitat conservation along the Kankakee River and was featured in the award-winning PBS documentary “Everglades of the North”.
Devoted to his family and friends, Joe left an indelible mark on anyone who knew him.
Private Burial with Military Honors will take place in St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. Sheets Funeral Home is entrusted with the care of his services.
