Kenneth Ray Merkel,
77, of Lowell, IN, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021. He is survived by his first wife, Diana Miller; son, Doug; daughters, Josette Sheets, Melisa Merkel; grandchildren, Veronica Danko, Kenny Merkel, Kelli Merkel, Natalie (John) Cotungo, Jessie Merkel; great-grandchildren Adalyna Merkel, Oliver Danko, Luca Cotugno; brother, Howard Merkel. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Mildred (nee’ Newberry) Merkel; brother Ronald Merkel.
Kenny was a fun loving, truck driving, motorcycle riding, passionate artist and wood worker; a jack of all trades and a wild man at heart. He loved to travel, visit with buddies, play outside with his grandson Ollie, and in his later years, spent his time adventuring around town with his beloved dog Bella. Many people have a “Kenny Merkel” story, be it funny, outrageous… or possibly illegal. That being said, Kenny is a small town legend that will be remembered for his quick temper and his huge heart. He was liked and loved by many, and will be greatly missed.
Private Cremation will be through Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-Creek Education Foundation, in honor of Kenny’s immense love for his grandchildren.
