Mike was born in Chicago, IL on the south side. He was in boy scouts and later explorer scouts which his father was the leader and took a group of teenage boys to Philmont, CO for a hiking trip of a lifetime. He moved to Lowell, IN and finished high school and graduated from Lowell High School with his sister, Marlene. He went on to be a midnight cook at the local truck stop “Crossroads” at Rt 2 and 65 for 19 years. He was an avid cook and prep cook.
He loved to take his nieces and nephews to the Dunes and especially Kemil Beach. He was the fun uncle who made their times together adventurous. When they were in the water he was in the water too with an eagle eye and lifeguard personality. The sand castles and moats were what every kid dreams of. He also packed the best sandwiches. He continued to be a great uncle to his great nieces and nephews and even babysat for Kyan starting at 6 weeks old. One time I came home to the entire front room of hot wheel car city. Kyan and him had made ramps and service stations and everything filled the entire room. I said “Mike REALLY” he said “Yes Jackie, we are having fun.”
Later he would be the 24/7 caregiver of our mother, until she passed, in my home so I could keep my job and caregive also for five years. Mike suffered a stroke shortly after our mother passed. Mike will be missed by many caring cousins, Donna, Karen, Betty, who were more like sisters because our mothers, Sissy and Eva, were always together so were we. His laughter, his sense of humor, his ability to give when you needed it most, I will miss you big brother, your loving sister, Jackie
