Mickey Read

Mickey Jo Read, 85, of Lake Village, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. Mickey was born to James and Dorothy South in Gaines, Georgia on July 26, 1940.

Along with her parents, Mickey was preceded in death by her son, Tracy Read; brother James Barry South; sisters Debra Kay Zak and Ruby Jean South. Mickey is survived by her son, James (Diane) Read; 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren: Alexis Stogdill; Markie (Tom), Whitley, & Teegan Sheehy; Kealy (Kevin) Dowden & family; Trace (Kelly) Myers & family; Carly (Peter), Amelia & Alexander Amico; Casey (Dylan) & Sophie Seago; Chloe Read (fiancé Chase Fenske); sister Solita Ann Collard; and many loving nieces & nephews.

Mickey lived life to the fullest, with many accomplishments. She was the long-time owner of Hair Quarters salon, open for more than 50 years. She served on the North Newton school board, as well as two terms as Newton County Commissioner. Never one to sit still, she loved to take care of her properties, golf, bowl, and be with her friends and family.

Cremation will precede Visitation, Monday April 13th from 3-5:30 PM CST with Memorial Service at 5:30 PM, all at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 604 E. Commercial Ave, Lowell, IN. Please join us immediately following for a Celebration of Life and dinner at 6:30 pm at the Lake Village Community Center (old firehouse at 9828 N. 300 W. Lake Village, IN). Private burial will take place in Lake Village Cemetery.
