Paul Edward Anderson
68, of Lowell, IN, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, following a lengthy battle with leukemia. Paul is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elaine (Batcho) Anderson; brother Murl and sister Meda Sue (Greg) Long; three nieces and two nephews. He will also be dearly missed by his neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Dorothy (Hamblin) Anderson.
Paul was born in Racine, Wisconsin while his dad was traveling with American Bridge. The family settled in Northwest Indiana when Paul was very young and he grew up in Highland, graduating from Highland High School. He retired from the Operating Engineers Local 150 in 2011. He was also a proud member of the Colfax Lodge in Lowell.
Paul was an Eagle Scout and was passionate about working with the youth. He devoted his life to teaching firearms safety, working with the Newton County 4-H Shooting Sports program and several Boy Scout troops. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and taught safe and ethical hunting practices to youth and adults as a volunteer Hunter Education Instructor with the IDNR. Paul and Elaine were awarded the District 10 Volunteer Instructors of the Year by the Indiana Hunter Education Association in 1997 and Paul was again awarded that distinction in 2005. Paul and Elaine were awarded the Newton County Friends of 4-H in 2006. Paul got no greater joy than working with a young person, coaching them through the process and watching their faces light up with delight from their success.
Paul dearly loved his dogs and his cat. Those dogs that predeceased him must all have been waiting to welcome him across the Rainbow Bridge.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 3rd from 3 to 7, Concluding with a Masonic Service at 7, all at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Lowell.
Memorial Donations may be made in Paul’s name to the Newton County 4-H Shooting Sports program.
