Rex Cummins Obituary

Rex A. Cummins
Our beloved, entered into the arms of the Lord on December 8, 2025, with his devoted wife, Sandra Cummins, lovingly by his side. In that sacred moment, he was joyfully met at the gates of heaven by his parents, Nellie and Rex Cummins; his brothers Mike and Jim Cummins; his sisters Marie and Sharon; and his bonus stepson Brian Oman. Welcoming him also were the countless souls whose lives he touched with kindness and compassion—friends, family, and strangers alike—gathered in a great celebration of reunion, rejoicing in the eternal homecoming of a faithful servant.
Born on February 21, 1941, in Gary, Indiana, Rex grew up in Lowell as the eldest of nine children. From the very beginning, he carried the mantle of responsibility with grace, embodying the values of faith, love, and service that would guide his entire life.
At just 18 years old, Rex answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Air Force in June of 1959. He proudly wore the uniform for four years, a testament to his courage and devotion. Beyond his military service, Rex’s gifts shone in his remarkable ability to repair and restore. A true magician with electronics, he could breathe life back into televisions, radios, and anything with wires and circuits. His talents became the foundation of his own business and later led him to serve as Biomedical Supervisor at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Illinois, where he also completed his degree in management.  Rex’s professional journey culminated at U.S. Cellular, where he dedicated 15 years to working on cell site radios. He took great pride in keeping people “connected,” seeing his work not just as a job but as a way to bring families, friends, and communities closer together.  Yet Rex’s greatest legacy was not his career, but the way he lived his faith. Guided by his unwavering commitment to love like Jesus, Rex went out of his way to help anyone in need—whether friend, family, or stranger. His generosity was not occasional but constant, a reflection of Christ’s heart in every act of service.
He is survived by his six children: Susan Bunting, Matthew Cummins (Bonnie), Marylyn (Terry, deceased), Jeff Cummins (Melissa), Jeremy Cummins (Cindy), and Adam Cummins (Amy); his “bonus daughter” Tamra Oman (Gloria); his surviving sisters Myra (Kent), Joann (Randy), Brenda; and his brother Bill; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and faith.
Rex’s life was a living testament to faith, family, and service. His laughter could brighten the darkest day, his wisdom offered guidance in times of uncertainty, and his compassion reminded us all of the power of love. Though his earthly journey has ended, his spirit shines on, a beacon of hope and faith that assures us love is eternal and that God’s promises are true.
"Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:23
