Robert "Bob" Payne Obituary

Robert “Bob” Payne

72, formerly of Westville and most recently of Morocco, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Bob was born on March 9, 1954, in Evergreen Park to Ted and Eileen (Canaty) Payne. He was a 1972 graduate of Rich Central High School.
On September 19, 2008, Bob married Ruth Grott after many years together. Family was the
center of Bob’s life, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his wife
and best friend, children, and grandchildren.
Bob worked as a bowling alley mechanic before becoming an electronic technician for
Westville Correctional Facility and later working for Public Call. Outside of work, he
enjoyed bowling, watching sports and movies, and umpiring softball games. His greatest
passion was cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting events, especially softball
games. Bob was incredibly proud of each of his grandchildren and loved talking about their
accomplishments whenever he had the chance.
Bob faced many physical challenges throughout his life with strength, determination, and
resilience, always surrounded by the people who loved him most. Through every challenge,
Ruth cared for him with unwavering love and devotion.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth; his children, Bethany (Lyle) Busboom, Jessica Wynn, and
Christopher (Tara) Payne; and his beloved grandchildren, Samantha, Phoebe, Summer,
June, Macy, Spencer, Lilyana, and Luci. He is also survived by his brother, Frederick Payne;
his special bonus sister-in-law, Lola Grott; and niece, Marsha Brinsfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Eileen Payne, and his younger sister,
Penny.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and
caregivers who supported Bob throughout the years with compassion and care, most
notably Dr. AJ Pampalone, nurse Tracy, and the entire staƯ at Northwest Indiana
Nephrology.
