William Donald Whyte
70, of Demotte, IN, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026, after a brief battle with a very aggressive cancer. His wife Lynn and his daughter Abigail were at his side.
Born in Richfield, Minnesota, to Donald McLeod Whyte and Betty Lou Vater Whyte, Bill spent his life in Indiana. He graduated from George Rogers Clark High School in 1974. He graduated with honors from De La Garza Career Center in 1994 as a Journeyman Machinist. He worked at Continental Machine, SMS Millcraft, and Sterling Machine. Bill holds the patent for his design of an internal support for BOF Lances for Tallman Bronze.
Bill was a true outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and exploring state parks in the Midwest with his faithful labrador companions and Lynn, the love of his life. He never was happier than when school vacations allowed Abby and her crew to join him on road trips. Bill loved family gatherings. He was a legendary turkey carver and gravy maker. Thanksgiving never will be the same.
Most of all, Bill will be remembered for his incredible sense of humor and his kind and generous spirit. He lived by the mantra, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lynn; daughter Abigail Whyte (David) Jakubielski; and their three children, Evylynn, Anna, and Mason; sisters Carol (David) Talabay and Jody (Conrad) Wayne; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, and friends who loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, from 4-8, with a Funeral Service Friday at 11, all at Sheets Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Lowell, IN.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of Bill, his family would welcome donations to Love of Labs Indiana, 125 W. South Street, PO Box 1391, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Bill’s Labrador retriever Jax was a Love of Labs rescue. Donations also can be made online — lolin.org — using the donate button.
