William "Bill" Poer

William Edward Poer was born August 9,1936 and lived his whole life in the Lowell area. He graduated from Lowell, IN High School, Class of 1954 and farmed in the Lowell area for 44 years. He retired in 1998. Bill married Sharon Anne Stromberg of Mountain, WI on August 9, 1969 in her home town.

He was a former President and trainer for Dunes Dog Training Club of Lake County Indiana. Bill was an avid motorcycle rider and life member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. Also, he was a former Chapter Director for Indiana Chapter A of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, as well as a life member of the American Motorcycle Association.

Bill loved his computer and spent many hours with it. He designed calendars for years and sent seasonal, birthday, anniversary and animation vignettes for many people to enjoy.

Bill and Sharon spent 25 winters in the Sebring, Florida area and were long time members of the Ride to Eat Bikers Club in Sebring. He was also a longtime member of the Movers and Shakers Motorcycle Club in the Sebring, FL area.

It was truly an accomplishment as Bill and Sharon rode over 1,000,000 miles on 2 wheel motorcycles and over 200,000 miles on a Gold Wing trike. They visited 49 State Capitols and 2200 County Courthouses on motorcycles.

Bill was preceded in death by parents, Jean A Poer and Velda May (Duensing) Poer, infant sister and brother, Jack A Poer in 1969.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon (Stromberg) Poer, sister, Linda (Poer) Johnson and brother-in-law, Carl Johnson, best friends, Edgar (deceased) and Darlene (Gutzman) Corns. Also survived by nieces, Jori (Johnson) Jennings and husband, Christopher, Tara (Johnson) Maxwell and husband, Aaron Rogers, and Erin (Johnson) Buche and husband, Ron. There are 11 great nieces and nephews, Andria Fox, Jack Maxwell, Mei, Adele, and Liora Jennings and Josie, Winnie, Benji, Sully, Evie and Augie Buche.

The funeral service will be held at Sheets Funeral Home in Lowell, Indiana. There will be a wake from 10 A.M. -12 P.M. on Monday, April 13, 2026 followed by the service at 12 P.M. with Pastor Ron Buche officiating. The interment will be at the Lowell Cemetery.
